While IWC's Ingenieur series may not be as popular as the iconic Portugieser Automatic or Chronograph, the Ingenieur collection with its Gérald Genta-inspired design stands out as one of the most comfortable sports watches. In March 2023, IWC unveiled the latest Ingenieur Automatic 40.

GH Factory’s highlight of 2023, the all-new IWC Ingenieur Automatic 40, has made a stunning debut. The case and bracelet feature a multi-layered brushed finish, with polished surfaces and an intricate bezel attached to the case using five polygonal screws. The dial has a distinctive checkerboard grid pattern, achieved through stamping and galvanization, and it’s paired with an integrated "H"-link bracelet. At 40mm in diameter and 10.8mm in thickness, it matches the original model’s specifications, maximizing its robust aesthetic. The ergonomic design enhances wearability, and it’s powered by a modified 9015 automatic movement to mirror the original IWC 32111 movement, complete with an anti-magnetic iron core to ensure accuracy and protection. This homage captures the spirit of premium craftsmanship with precision.

The GH Factory Ingenieur 40mm is a well-suited size for most Asian wrists, offering a choice of dials in white, black, blue, green, and gray. The dial colors are impressively accurate; for those looking for complete authenticity, the black and white dials are recommended. The green and gray dials, with the latter crafted in titanium, add a modern touch. The case features brushed and polished finishes with defined edges reminiscent of the Overseas series. The bezel, held by five screws, adds a bold, elegant touch, and the alternation of polished and chamfered surfaces creates a refined finish. With the addition of crown guards and a sportier dial design, the GH Factory Ingenieur exudes a rugged charm.

The dial features a unique “grid” texture, with luminous markers and hands for legibility in low light. At 6 o’clock, the Ingenieur’s iconic “lightning bolt” logo crosses the “Ingenieur” text, a signature detail.

This 40mm model uses a thin 9015 movement, achieving a slim 10.8mm profile, closely matching the original’s thickness and creating an ideal everyday sports watch size. The back case follows IWC’s traditional solid design, enhancing water resistance, while GH Factory’s high-quality reproduction brings out the details superbly.
