After a hiatus without a platinum model, Panerai returns to this luxurious metal with the Platinumtech Luminor Marina PAM01116. Unlike conventional platinum alloys, the PAM 1116 features an extra-hard platinum alloy with superior wear resistance.

Distinct from Panerai's recent lightweight launches, the Platinumtech Luminor stands out. The watch comes with an impressive 70-year warranty, emphasized by an oversized emblem on the sapphire back.

Initial impressions suggest that the Platinumtech Luminor maintains the impressive weight associated with platinum watches, coupled with an unconventional yet appealing olive-green dial.

While the 70-year warranty might seem more like a gimmick than a practical benefit, the straightforward movement of the watch probably doesn't require such an extended warranty. Despite its relatively high price for a contemporary Panerai, the watch offers value within the broader market, considering its case size and in-house movement.

Crafted from Platinumtech, a specially hardened platinum alloy, the case, crown lock bridge, and lever undergo a meticulous manual polishing process. The watch introduces a new dial with a unique combination, featuring a metallic olive-green hue, blued steel hands, and gilt print "Panerai" at six, complemented by beige Super-Luminova.

Mechanically, the Platinumtech Luminor shares similarities with other versions, powered by the P.9010 movement, visible through the sapphire back. The movement, featuring automatic winding and a three-day power reserve, is identical to the one found in last year's Luminor Marina Fibratech PAM 1663, which comes with a standard eight-year warranty. The platinum emblem on the inner surface of the case back emphasizes the 70-year warranty, making a distinctive statement.
